[lang_en]This weekend I came across some writings by James Flaherty – author of Coaching: Evoking Excellence in Others
“… there is no knowing outside of doing: we didn’t learn to walk by someone explaining it to us; we had to practice driving to be able to do it; we learned algebra by working many problems; we can play the piano because we rehearsed for hours”
This is also the philosophy that is at the heart of the GROW: leadership program that we offer. If you would like to become a great manager/leader you will need to move from theory to application. You will need to do things and see what happens – no amount of books and reading will get you there – to really know you must first do.[/lang_en]

Very good point! when did any of us ever learn to do something be reading a book or sitting 10 years in a classroom?
Daniel Coleman is pin pointing the same issue in his book primal leadership. This book is about leadership and and emotional inteligens – very good!
Most leadership development classes is about mastering administration, marketing, accounting and other technics. Coleman says that learning can only happen in action learning only happen when you feel the change and when you brake the comfort zone.
If i think back on how i learnt skiing it is precisly that way i have learnt almost anaything in my live.
As i former atendee at a GROW leadership proces I can not stress how valuble this learning method is.
Think about how many day to day rutines you do every day and how little time you spend on learning new thinks and how little time you spend on getting out of that comfort zone.. Look at a child and compare the childs proactive way of reaching for learning..
just a little hmm from me.. Have a great weekeend
