GROW Leadership

What is GROW Leadership?

GROW Leadership is a training course based on action learning. The participants learn by doing in their job situation while studying at the same time. In this way the participants go through a professional and personal development that strengthens their positions as leaders – without having to leave their job in the proces. It can be quite difficult to manage without key employees in a busy company that depends on it’s leaders on a daily basis – but GROW offers a solution that suite these kind of companies perfectly. It’s a unique way of developing companies without having to send the employees away on time-consuming training courses.

I facillitate training courses in leadership for Grow Aps in Denmark – based on the theory of Service Profit Chain and the method Action Learning.

The GROW process

An ongoing learning cycle

Feedback is the breakfast of champions. The best way to accelerate learning by doing is to create an intensive feedback environment – very similar to what happens when you are working with a tennis or golf coach. You take a swing at the ball and you receive immediate feedback. The recipe for successful (accelerated) learning is lots of doing combined with lots of feedback. If you don’t believe it just think of what happens when a baby learns to walk. Not an easy feat – no manual, no explanation. Just trial and error and lots of positive feedback from admiring adults who go over the top in their praise of the efforts being displayed on the carpet. The performer goes from failure to failure with no lack of enthusiasm.

Managing is much like riding a bike – no matter how much you read, the only way you really will learn is by doing, and by doing we mean entering into the cycle of: Action → result → feedback → new (corrected) action.
